2010 Australian flu vaccine recommendation

The Australian Influenza Vaccine Committee (AIVC) met on 2 October 2009, and agreed to adopt the WHO recommendations announced in September for the 2010 influenza season southern hemisphere winter.

The Committee decided that the influenza vaccine components for the year 2010 season should contain the following:

  • A (H1N1): an A/California/7/2009 (H1N1) - like strain, 15 µg HA per dose
  • A (H3N2): an A/Perth/16/2009 (H3N2) - like strain, 15 µg HA per dose
  • B: a B/Brisbane/60/2008 - like strain, 15 µg HA per dose

The following viruses are recommended as suitable vaccine strains:

  • A/California/7/2009 (H1N1) (NYMC X-179A, NYMC X-181, NYMC X-181A,NIBRG-121, NIBRG-121xp)
  • A/Perth/16/2009 (H3N2)- like virus
  • B/Brisbane/60/2008
